I attended at PI Day Event at IOANID International High School with great enthusiasm. The event started off with a general presentation of PI made by me. This presentation included fun facts about PI along with how it became popular and why it is used today.
After that, another student completed a problem with pi in order to demonstrate it’s use in mathematics. When the problem was completed, a contest in which students had to write down as may decimals of pi started. In this contest, the winner wrote down 61 decimals, whilst the second-best contestant wrote 49. The winner, Sara, was rewarded a cake with Pi.
Overall, this event was both informative and fun as it allowed me to understand the PI symbol and also offered me the opportunity of finding out interesting facts about this number during my research for the presentation. One of the most interesting facts I found out is the fact that Pi was calculated in ancient times by taking a polygon and adding sides to it until it came close to being a circle. Finally, my favourite part of the event were the Pi cookies, which had this symbol on them and were delicious.
